Why you swim coach get so stressed out at you turning up late for practice.

January 29, 2012

Have you notice how stressed out your swim coach gets when you arrive late for practice. Well here is the reason why.
If you miss just 400m every session over a year by arriving late, missing laps, fixing goggles and going to the toilet. Over a 10 session week you will miss out on 4,000m training. Doesn’t sound to bad until you look at a years training. If you train for 48 weeks a year and miss out 4,000m per week you will miss out 192,000m per year. This unbelievably can add up to 3 weeks of missed training.

Be on time, be ready to train, be ready to finish’, BE BRILLIANT!

Problems

Your real “problem” is not what you think it is…Your real problem is the fact you think you are not supposed to have any! Problems are a sign of life.. they call us to grow! Step up!

Why is morning training so great for swimmers?

September 24, 2011

Why is morning training  so great for swimmers?

Swimming has a massive advantage over most sport as we are able to give a more flexible approach to session times. My view is quite simple, athletes  of school and college age need to be able to juggle both school work and training. We can help them do this by encouraging them to focus there energy into making more morning sessions and giving them the flexibility to miss some evening sessions.

In my experience i have never heard of a child getting up at 5:30am to complete their homework, i have seen many a talented athlete throw their talent away missing morning and evening training.

We all want our children to do well at school and athletically, swimming can help them do this by developing a strong work ethic. Their commitment in training is reflected in attitude to life giving them the will to rise to any challenge.

Getting into a good sleep routine is the best way to help any athlete succeed. So going to bed early is the best way to start the recovery process. As well as turning off mobile phones, logging off Facebook, turning off the TV.

  • Get up early to train.
  • Go to bed early.
  • Make all morning sessions available.
  • Take time off from evening sessions to complete homework not morning sessions.
  • Turn off all gadgets before bed.
  • Plan for the unexpected breaks in training.
  • Always have training sessions in the bank.

Swimming is the best thing to get good at swimming!

7 seconds

September 23, 2011

How much rest between swimming sets. Well it takes only seven seconds for food and drink to get from your mouth to your stomach. So seven seconds seems like a good place to start.
